Anyone have experience trying to remove scatches in a glass tank? Stupid me, I put some larger grain sand in my 210 gal. and when I used my magnet cleaner I caught some small rocks in it and scratched the glass in several areas.

i would also like to know this i dont think you can but i did the same thing now i have a scraper and never magfloat it any where near the sand.

Well, I dont have the answer YET but I might soon!
I just bought a 120 that has a few small scratches and one wicked one!
so I have been asking around and there are 2 main ideas that keep being mentioned.
1- windshield repair kit. I bought it at pepboys for like $10 this will be atempt #1 its made by permatex and advertises for cracks up to a foot long so it may fill the bad scratch just nicely.

2- is a polishing kit from home depot for also about $10, its for a dremel it comes with felt polishing weels and a jar of jewlers ruege. 4 differnt people i talked to said that they had used jewlers ruege when cutting glass to polish it back clear or removing scratches after a cut. another guy said he used it to take scratches out of his windshield after he lost a wiper blade and the metal arm tore up his glass. He said it took him 3 days of working on it but when he was done he couldnt even tell!
I have allready bought both kits and will be trying them out within the next 2 weeks!(as soon as I have some free time!)

anywho I will post the results (possibly pics too) as soon as I get started, any one else hear of any better ideas or have any comments?

By the way - I did the same thing with sand under a powerful magnetic cleaner. I've gotten used to using plastic scrapers to avoid scratches since then.

any one ever think about just turning your tank around so that the back is the front ? i mean it would be a pain but your viewing pane would be scratch free and the back would have coralline anyway ?
maby
but if painted youd have to scrape and repaint and drain ect. real PITA on anything over a 55 but do-able

Well after much effort and many nights i can honestly say that only the light scratches can be removed!
the one deep one i have seems unaffected but the smaller ones are gone!, but man it took fifty forevers to get rid of each one!
oh well i tried!

my heart sank when i just bought my 150 and realized i scratched the side big time like 6 inches and its a deep one. if you rub your fingernail you can feel it.

i was only 2 days old
