Scavenger fish

depends on what otherfish are in your tank.
my convict blenny used to do a good job of eating what other left behind but hermit crabs and my sally lightfoot crab help alot also.

If you have big mean fish a black fin shark works really well they are actually brackish but do very well in saltwater cleaning the bottom because they don't come to the top to eat

how about a large red hairy hermit crab - mine does a great job of eating "junk" and my 14" + puffer can't get through his shell

i am always a fan of sand sifting gobies, and some of them get quite large and tolerant of semi agressive tankmates. my personal fav?... golden head sleeper goby

man, I had two of those and never again! yeah, the sift the sand, but spit it all over the rockwork and anything else that is in the tank.

Yeah.... im going through the same thing with a Dragon (brown barred) Goby. He does a great job at keeping the sand clean..... but he has dusted every rock in my reef with a layer of sand! I spent about a month tryin to catch him to no avail.... to damn quick for the net (+ too many rocks) and cant bait him cause his food source covers the entire bottom of the tank! So i just decided to wait him out.... gotta get old and die sometime.
