Sched 80 bulkheads fit Sched 40 pvc pipe?

Will schedule 40 pvc pipes fit in schedule 80 bulkheads and unions? if this is so, then are schedule 80 pvc pipes I.D. smaller than sched 40? Or is it the material they're made out of?

I think the number corresponse to pressure rate. So Schedule 40 is rated for 40psi and Sch 80 is rated for 80psi. The OD should be the same but not sure if the ID are the same. But don't relay on the ID cause every manufactures have different ID however, the OD is all ways the same for all manufactures. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

the schedule is the thickness of the wall, it does have to do with how much pressure it can take but its Sc40 can handle WAY more than 40, I think typical ratings are 120PSI. But you're correct in that the inside diameter is not the same.

Should fit into the sc80 bulkheads though.

yeah the OD's are all the same. there's thin wall, sch 26, the standard white stuff sch 40, and the grey sch 80.

the higher the number, the thicker the pipe, and the smaller the ID.

but back to the original question. they're all compatible with each other because the OD is all the same.

I have found more than once where sched 40 pipe didn't fit snugly into sched 80 slip bulkheads. I usually prefer to to use threaded bulkheads and my own sched 40 fittings to ensure a good fit/seal
