School of Yellow Tangs

So I am setting up my new 240 gallon tank. 96x30x18. I am looking to do a school of yellow tangs about 5 or 7 of them. Has anyone successfully kept a school of yellow tangs like this before or seen it done.

i have that same tank, would not be a problem when they are small, they can get to be larger size fish, so I would not do more than 5. If you are going to keep other tangs, than maybe one or 3. I think 3 is a good number if they are different sizes. Also feed alot of spriula (spelling)

I currently have 5 yellows and 4 purples in my 800. They actually schooled together quit well in the begging then they set up territories and don't school at all until feeding time. They beat each other up a little, but not enough to cause harm. I think I am actually going to take some of the purples out because my tank is looking a little "œtangy" these days. I would suggest, if you want them to school, to also have some much larger fish (ie get small tangs like I did) so they feel like they have to school. Only when these guys started running the tank "œie I took my cross hatchs and 10' majestic angle out" did they stop their schooling behavior.

I had a school of 20 yellow tangs and 20 Pyramid butterfly in my 480g before. They actually stay together in a group without any issue. Will post some pic for you tonight.

Wow ya that sounds cool. If you could post some pics or videos I would love it.
So the best is to get them and then add some larger fish to map the tangs school.

I like school of anthias or Cardinals. Tangs do get big after a while. With the decorations you have in the tank i wouldn't put more than 5 yellow in it. You don't have a lot of swimming space for that many.
