Schooling fish questions

As I'm sure most people are, I want one of each fish. As this obviously isnt a thing I can do I was struck with a question.

What fish are best in schools or what ones are ok as just a single?

i don't think you can really get a fish to "school" in a fish tank, especially in a 35g. Although you can add a tank full of chromis and a clown trigger and it would school nicely.

Fish won't school in captivity, but they will shoal - which looks like schooling. It's just a defensive behavior where they all move as a group when threatened. As RealReef said chromis are known to shoal.

What fish do better in pairs of two or more

a trio of small royal grammas or a trio of small cardinal fish.

Chaulk Bass also do good in groups of 2 or more.

I like the look of cards. Are they easy to keep?
