I have 4 scolymias and a candy cane colony in my tank... I've had all for 6+ months and haven't fed... now...

Candy cane's originally had almost no "meat", they they got full and full of meat, now they're getting smaller again and Never extend polyps - how can I get them to extend so i can start feeding for the first time?

I've placed thawd mysis shrimp on all the scoly's, 2 stick and then let go of the food, the other two virtually have no tentacles to stick to the food with and thus won't eat either.

Any suggestions??? Thanks!

I find my coral extend their feeding tentacles shortly after the lights turn off. Have you checked then?

That being said, some of my corals seldom feed. Maybe the light is adequate?

Here is what I do to feed. About a half-hour before the lights go out I feed a little Cyclops-Eze. At this time Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m feeding the fish more than the corals. However it triggers the corals to go into a ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œfeeding modeââ"šÂ¬Ã‚. Then about an hour after the lights go off, with ambient room light low, most if not all of the corals are ready to be spot fed. I load up a small turkey baster with thawed Cyclops-Eze and Hikari Mysis shrimp. Give this a try add see if it helps. At first you might not see much of a reaction but continuing this on a regular schedule over time you will see a better response.

will try... i always feed the fish1 hr before the lights go out, they never extend their polyps... when i first got them they did, now no extension.

My cynaria eats =)

I feed similar to lvreefer, but I do it during the dusk period of my lighting cycle when just the actinics are on.

First I shut my pumps off, tease with a little cyclopeeze, and then I feed cyclopeeze and mysis. Sometimes I add a little Prime Reef to keep the fish and hermits busy. That lets the LPS hang onto their hard earned mysis.

I have a Candy Cane that behaved the same way as Chris'. I will try your suggestions...thanks for the tips!

I use Kents Coral Excell in my tank and it causes them to grow and expand more durring the day. This is probably just the iodide in the supplement that helps them. I have been using it every 3 days for a year and my corals have grown many new heads. Just my 2 cents worth. I feed my corals a mixture that I learned to make on this website. Im sure you all have been to Melvs reef website. It has lots of info. Heres the link to the food recipe.
