Scotch Brite pad help!

My girlfriend used a new Scotch brite pad on our tank thinking it was safe since it was new. Next day I have a dead lawnmower blenny and both clowns are in bad shape. They were in the tank for about 20 hours before I could do anything but I've replaced every gallon of water in the tank and conditions haven't improved. Anything else I can do but wait?

Like I said, I did a full water change and replaced the water with water from my stable 120 Gal system. this morning they still seem under the weather but ate a few flakes that presented themselves to them just right. They didn't move much to get the food and swim in the same spot at the bottom. I'm thinking it's going to take some time for them to heal from whatever poisons they were exposed to. Really upset this happened!

Don't be too mad at your gf; just educate her about the proper cleaning pads to use for an aquarium.

I can't even get my wife to use the mag float when I go out of town!!!

Haha well she loves cleaning with the mag float but on our aquapod 24 gal it never gets everything since the glass is slightly bowed. Drives her nuts! She asked if she could use that sponge if it was new and I said yes since I've done the same thing in the past with previous (cichlid ) tanks. I also rinsed it before using it which she didn't do. I guess the toughness of cichlids and the initial rinse never led to any problems for me. But now We learned our lesson.

Unless they've changed, a NEW Scotch Brite pad is perfectly safe. They don't contain any soap or chemicals; grabbing a used one from the sink is a big mistake---obviously.

If wife manages to throw food in every other day I'm happy. Cleaning the tank well I'll quote her the day I got the first tank, "You better take care of it because I'm not cleaning it." Been a few years I don't think she's ever even filled the ATO let alone scrape the glass.

Yeah, I overfeed on the days leading up to a trip. The fish go on a "diet" when it's just the wife around. She gets annoyed when the first words out of my mouth are, "Have you fed my fish today?" when I call. She's like, "Thanks for asking, I'm fine." :lmao:
