scratches from mag float?

i have been noticing what seems to be an increasing number of fairly small, but noticable scratches on my inside glass. The tank is not new, and probably at least five years old. The only thing i can think that would cause this scratching would be my mag float. Is this possible? or am i just seeing more scratches beacuse i am looking for them? i am just using the standard 125 model for glass aquariums.. thanks

i put a decent sized scratch in my old 75 with a mag float--accidentally had some sand between the glass and the inside part of the magnet. now i'm extremely careful-each time i use it i briefly separate the magent to allow anything caught to drop down.
