screeching noise at night

At night when the lights are off I hear a screeching coming from my marine tank what could it be? Mantis?

Mantises don't screech. They make a sound that is similar to tapping on the glass or rock with a piece of metal.

Maybe your tank in haunted. :fun5:

Maybe a vibration of the return pump on your skimmer or main return hitting the glass just right. It happened in my tank. My light fixture sometimes makes a weird noise from vibration.

Sounds like a screaming crab. They whine as you go to sleep because they want more jewelery, they are sick of dirty dishes, and having to 'clean up' even though all they do all day while you are at work is lay around eating crap. Best thing to do is get it on the ground and sink your heel into it. He he...

snails and stuff are more active at night. Maybe a snail or slug worked his way between the powehead and the glass???

Could be metal in the light fixture pinging and popping while cooling/heating. Mine pops about 10 mintues after the 4 98 watt actinics cut on and about 10 minutes after they go off at night.

I have a crab that i;ve been trying to catch he makes clicking noises at night when the lights are off hes cruching live rock.

Maybe a lobster. I had one of those spiny lobsters and they would run their antenea through their mouth like a violin player and my god did that scare the poop outta me!

i had some turbo snails that would only come out at night. they would climb up the back wall and eat algae off the coralin encrusted overflow box. they made a real audible scratching sound. i wonder if thats the same thing your hearing. it took me a while to figure it out and it bugged me every night!!!

Sometimes snails squish up between powerheads/pumps and the glass. Makes a really really annoying sound. I couldn't figure out the noise for months.
