Hey,

The conversion from fresh to saltwater is going great thus far! currently the setup stands as

29 Gal tank
New Oak stand
orbital PC lighting (1 blue 1 antic white 2 lunar lights)
Tetra pf-300 Filter (bio)
2 - Aquaclear powerheads for current
1 -150w visitherm heater
30lbs Livesand
roughly 25-30lbs cured liverock (fiji + tonga)

Protein skimmer is on the way should be here by friday the latest.

Params:
Temp 78 +/- waiting on digital thermom using regular floating therm.
SG/Salinity 1.025/6 (Waiting for refractometer should be here next week) using an instant ocean hydrometer right now.
PH - 8.2 Steady (using dipstick and wardly highrange PH)
Ammonia - 0 Steady has been 0 for 3 weeks now
Nitrates - 0 Steady has been 0 for about 3 weeks aswell

Iv been using seachems reefsalt and Seachems Prime on water.

So right now things seem to be pretty good id say besides one thing. Algae has been blooming which I expected unfortunatly im not using RO water yet and also this is a new tank so im sure it was expected. Iv been leaving my lighting on 10 hour cycles for the micro algae to get some sort of light but all the same water is looking good just have some algae building up (brown).

My question for you guys is can I take out my live rock and scrub it with a new brush? Its really really brown in some cases. And its also my sand is brown in some places aswell I havent touched the sand though outside of water changes which I'v been doing 20% every friday.

Also reguarding powerhead placement and GPH Im using one powerhead thats rated for tanks 40- 70 galons roughly 400 gph then im using another for tanks that are 20 - 50 galons 270 gph. Is this too much? I have them on oposite sides of the tank pointing different directions so the flow is kinda going around in a circle.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

You can take the rock out and scrub it, just make sure you do so in tank water and rinse it really well with tank water (and do a water change to replace what you use). You flow is fine IMO, maybe even on the low side.

Think so? when my skimmer gets here it comes with another powerhead aparently, I took the easy way out and went to ebay for a cheap skimmer it can be found at

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7739267083&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1

Hows the placement? think I should move them around or is that good for now? Also I have heard good things on that skimmer which is why I bought it for now until I get some more money and get a little more into the hobby.

Thanks
Ryan
