Sea Brushes Question

Hi, I bought several sea brushes a while back and most have grown taller and don't look like a shaving brush much in shape. Is this normal growth or is something out of balance. I have had a smaller variety send off babies and I seperated them from mother and they are growing and doing well, i was surprised at the roots these guys had, I waited till they were about an inch tall before seperating them. My main question is a couple including the mother of the babies is turning white and looks dead except for stalk, will the tops grow back or is the mother dead and should I remove it. I love them when they look great but hate it when they look dead. thanks for any help fellow reefers

I have heard that these grow by producing new plants, after which the original plant dies. So I would guess that your mother plant has simply died after producing the new plants. You can remove it to keep the tank looking clean. I plan on getting some of these for my new tank. Did your plant produce multiple babies? If so, that's great because then the plants can multiply despite the original plant dying each time.
