Sea hare question

I was thinking of getting a sea hare. I thought small instead of large...thinking a large one might starve. Is that a good idea?

i guess that would depend on how much algea you have in your tank. Razz has one that will eat algea strips when her algea is down in her tank. but i guess a small one is a good idea if you dont have alot of algea or dont need to get rid of it that fast.

If you run out of algae and wan tto keep the sea hare, you can supplement it with some occasional caulerpa. That is their main diet in the wild, and it won't foul your tank water if you only add small amounts.

Here is another question...do mag floats ever lose their effectiveness? I clean it but sometimes it seems to miss some spots.

yes the pads wear out. for a mag float i dont think they sell pads so you'd need to get a new one.

Start small......as St.James said...they will grow quickly....word of caution...I got a black one at one point and it mowed down my Green star polyps, like it was cool...so not all are reef safe.....now I was not complaining, as I wanted them out anyway....but he did a nice job for me :)
