Sea in the City

Yesterday evening, I was able to visit Sea in the City. WOW!!! That's a very nice, high quality, reef store. Both of the young ladies at the store were extremely knowledgeably about their fish, corals, and dry goods, and could converse intelligently about a variety of aquarium operating systems and equipment. The aquariums displaying their various fish and corals for sale appeared very clean and well maintained. I was able to check out their operating systems, including their RO/DI unit and salt mixing stations, and several sump/fuge/skimmer systems. Their attention to detail and the fact that there appeared to be a skimmer and refugium on each system indicated to me that the health of their fish for sale is very important. I was also pleasantly supprised to find what I believe to be the best selection of small sps frags that I have seen in the past 10 years. The various sps frags were all very colorful and had great polyp extension. I caught myself drooling!!! Then I spent some time studying their live rock. I don't think I've ever seen more colorful and interestingly shaped rock. I may need some of that!!!
I do realize that this is a new store location, so the equipment was new, but I don't believe that is why this reef store is so impressive. The friendliness and knowledge of the staff and their commitment to the quality of their products are what make Sea in the City a definite jewel in the aquarium trade. I'll do business there.

I don't advertise...just review. You can see a lot more of them on the Tampa Bay Reef Club site. Some are good...some are not so good. I call it like I see it. I don't know any LFS store owners in Florida, as I'm kind of new here, and I recieve nothing for a good review. When I was new at this, I wish I had reviews to read. I would have made many less mistakes if I had known of good stores in the early days. Like you already have, I'm setting up a large sps reef, so as I'm building my system, I'm building my list of quality reef stores to do business with.
What do you fly???

Their old store was setup/is setup the exact same way. They just had a lot more room to play with in this location!

375Reef - Its true that RC tries to keep a lid on any shilling that may go on with store employees advertising as ReefCentral members on the board, but that doesnt appear to be the case here. It seems to be, instead, a rather sincere testimonial. Sometimes, when we are really impressed with things, we get so enthusiastic we start to sound a little like marketing majors. ;)

And I think I understand where he's coming from. There is a lack of really amazing shops where I am in the state, so visiting anything within Orlando is like a trip to LFS heaven.

Plus, lamb has too many posts to be solely for advertising. Its a problem with members who are new to the forums typically.

Sarah...I really enjoyed your article about macroalgae in Reefkeeping online mag. I read every article every month. I'm an education freak. I'm a big fan of refugiums on reef tanks. I want to do glass doors on my stand, so the fuge can be visible. I want macro for nutrient export plus some food for Tangs. What would you recommend? Do you know what macros Tangs eat in the wild?

Wow, that was your article, Sarah? Sorry, I didn't immediately make the connection!! I also read all that Reefkeeping publishes. Excellent reference material and your article was exceptionally well written and focused on excellent info. I grow macros for the tangs to eat at the store so I, too, am interested in finding out more about their natural diets. Cyndi Lauper, our Red Sea Sailfin, loves red bubble caulerpa and practically jumps out of the tank when she sees me grab some for her. I'll be interested to know if that's the best type for her. You drive from St Petersburg to SITC?

we were going to orlando to get corals from a orca member.while we were there yes we went to sea in the city.we do have a few fine stores here, but i will still take a trip to otown for some nice corals.

When you're puttig 10K to 20K into an aquarium, what's an extra few hours driving and $20 in gas to find the best stuff.
