Sea monkeys?

I saw sea monkeys at hobby lobby today. What are these? I expect they are some sort of shrimp or pod. Would they have any use in the reef? Maybe to grow in the fuge or a seperate compartment for feeding fish and corals?

Yes, correctomundo:rollface:

There are two types now, tipical sea monkeys are a species brine shrimp (Artemia Salina) but you may also find other types like some kind of crustacean that resembles a mini horse shoe crab (Trilobytes?).

It would be cheaper to go buy brine shrimp eggs at the LFS. I think the little horseshoe looking ones are Triops or something. Not sure what they are exactly.

I just buy a bag of live brine. You wouldnt be able to keep them in the tank. They dont have any sense over their environment. They would just float around and get eaten. Pods at least know whats going on and hide when a predator comes around. Keeping them in the tank would just be over feeding your fish. I keep mine in a 2g with a air stone. I give the tanks a scoop every day or 2. If you really wanna raise them just buy some eggs and hatch them its easier to do this outside of the tank. HTH
