can a sea star lose part of his tentacle and will that tentacle grow to be a sea star itself? just a little conversation we had last night, thanx

mine have lost small parts of tier legs and I have not seen any more around

my Asterina stars started off with one about a year ago from a piece of LR w/zoa. i have about 100+ of them and they keep the tank algae free. they max in size about a half inch or so, and they do 'split' and make another star. i have several two and three legged stars at any given time.

Depends upon the type...all can lose a arm and be fine
only a few species will split to reproduce

and the ones that can grow another one usually dont in an aquarium
