I amcontemplating setting up a seahorse tank. Would it be better to use a 33long or a 30 gallon? What about light requirements? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You want a tall tank, at least 18" tall, preferably 24" tall or more, with a water volume of at least 29 gallons. Is the 30 gallon tank 18" tall?

The 30 gallon is 17" high, I was also contemplating buying a 29 gal nanocube which is 19" high. I really just want whatever they will do the best in.

Nanocubes require a lot of mods to keep them cool enough for seahorses (70-74 degrees), you're better off just buying a 29 gallon (or larger) tank with seperate accessories.

Nanocubes

Hello:

I am also a fan of nanocubes however I have found that the best (and cheapest) solution for keeping seahorses is the CURRENT SOLANA. its has a skimmer that works very well as well as a pump with adjustable flow.

Other than adding a chiller (which you will have to do with EVERY setup since you need 72 degrees for SH) its ready for seahorses right out of the box.

Also, I would look into getting an ECOCUBE which is in essence a solana but instead of being 20x20x20 its 18x18x18 and it also has low iron glass and its cheaper.

As far as chillers go, I would pick up a current 1/15 hp and the lowest flow pump that will still fit the chiller.

Drfostersmith.com has both these items for sale on their website.

Regards and good luck,

E
