Seahorses and Brook

Hello,
I have a small SH tank connected to my other tank, and all fish in other tank died from brooks.

can the seahorses get it now ? I am going to leave system fish less. do I remove SHs as well ?

secondly, what do I treat the SHs with ? they show no sign of disease for now.

Yes, it can affect seahorses, though I have never dealt with it personally. Formalin is the treatment of choice. The problem is that you may not even see it if it attacks the gills first.

I had brooks from a pair of clownfish spread to a seahorse. If you see your seahorse gilling (breathing very quickly and heavily) I would treat them with a formalin dip (or Ich X which is the same product from a different company). You may need to treat again a second time after 48 hours if your seahorse is not fully recovered after the first treatment.

Each reatment requires placing the affected seahorse in one gallon of your tank water with two teaspoons of Formalin (or Ich X) added to the water for about 45 - 50 minutes. You must run heavy aeration provided by an airpump and airstone during this treatment. If the seahorse shows signs of distress then cut the treatment short.

I found that this treatment does work well on seahorses suffering from brooks if you catch it early. (I gave my clownfish away to a friend after this incident. I also treated then with formalin to rid them of brooklynella).

But if your seahorse do not show any signs of infection, such as heavy, rapid breathing, I would not treat them.

thanks guys, all fish in the system have dies, so its just matter of time with SHs I think, will remove and treat them tonight, and hold in separate tank for a couple of months, thanks again.

One formalin dip will not cure them of brook. A minimum of 3 dips every other day should take care of it.
