i have come across a 24 nanocube for sale and would like to know if this can be an appropriate size for seahorses? i currently have a mixed reef 90 gal. so i do have some experience with keeping my water perimeters correct and all corals/fish healthy. if not this size then what size? thanks for any information.

For common sp., that is a little bit too small. 30 is minimum. For harder species, such as capensis, this would keep them alive, but not thriving.

ok so never mind the nano. what is the best size for a pair and what is the best pair (for no experience)? thanks.

following along, I am new to seahorses too, and am interested in a nano - r2odie, i followed you here from the nano forum!

I've been wondering the same thing. Seahorse Source (generally considered one of the best sources for horses) recommends a minimum of 20--25 gallons (minimum height 18") for a pair of Kudas.

The 24-gallon JBJ nanocube listes the (external) height as 19.7". Anyone know what the internal depth is?

Is there a space concern for tank placement?

It is better to get a slightly larger tank. Makes it easier to manage water quality.

The cost of a 30g is not that much more than a 24g.

I have done some experimenting in the shop with the Aquapod 24 for larger seahorses and the Nano 6 for H. zosterae. Both experiments worked quite well. Flow has to be managed and close eye on the temps. The Aquapod initially ran a bit warm but if you seal the fan well and add an extra, it can made to run within a degree of ambient room temperature. Locally, there are many people using both the Aquapod and Nano 24 successfully for keeping a pair of seahorses.

I have a pair in a 20g tall tank and they are doing really well. They are wc and so far no diseases and has had them for more than two months now. Only down side is that I have to feed them live ghost shrimp which can be a pain sometimes. If you get a smaller tank I think key is to have a high tank.
