Seastar ID Help Please!!

OK. So my friend is in the Army and just go sent off to flight school. He has to tear down his tank and asked if I wanted his starfish. He couldn't remember the name so I said I would take it and house it until a) it caused problems or b) i found out that it was going to cause problems due to its species.

Now, I cannot, for the life of me, identify this thing. At first, I thought it might be the non-reef bahama star. I don't think so, however. Then, I got an e-mail from someone suggesting that it may be a Protoreastor species...perhaps a variant of P. lincki (again, not reef safe). But, I can't seem to find any photos of them that look like mine.

I have a 20 gallon reef. This guy is about 3 inches across. Hasn't caused any problems yet. In fact, he ate my red bubble algae last night (yeah!). So can anyone shed some light on this mystery? A photo of the star in my tank is below...thanks so much for anyone's help.
