Seawater safe to use?

I've 24' Cruiser boat and back of my platform i've 50g bait tank that collects seawater from bottom of my boat. I never though of this until I read UCSB free water.

I sometimes go to Catalina for fishing and scuba diving. I store my catch in this tank and bring them back fresh... now, instead of fish i can fill up my bait tank and bring this water to use in my tank. I normally dump all the water out before heading back home since it's extra weight.

Question is, is this water safe to use without filteration? Is water from LFS are they filtered once?

Catalina Water Company advertises they filter their water before delivering it.

Dumb question,,,, is this reason why it's called Catalina water?? I though it was called because water is from around the Catalina.

Which is it?? so, is all water LFS sells is from this company called Catalina?

catalina water co. pulls their water off a pier in long beach. ;)

One thing to keep in mind when collecting water from the open ocean, most likely, unless you are able to lower your bucket/collection device several feet down then cap it off, you will be collecting surface water.

Surface water is usually where most of your contaminants are found.

my 2 cents.
