Sebae Anemone

I went out today and saw a 3-4" sebae for $10 so I thought why not take it. It is yellow with magenta colored tips. The tentacles are sort of sticky and the mouth isn't gaping or anything. The tentacles are like 1-2cm each. Never kept a sebae before... Anyways, I was looking for advice on how to keep it healthy. I have it under 110w PC in my 34g RSM with 5 BTA. Are they allowed to touch? Thanks!

First I wouldn't have put a Sebae in a 34, let alone with those lights, and even more let alone with 5 BTAs in there.

However, IMO, none of the above will matter. 99.9% of yellow Sebaes are dyed, and won't make it. And those are very short tentacles for a Sebae --- not a good sign.

mmm...yellow ones are usually dyed and usually won't survive long term. Give it lots of light, feed it small bits of fish, and keep it away from the BTA's for now. If you don't already, run carbon in your filter to absorb any chemicals the other anemones gives off. If everything goes well the tentacles should grow longer aprox. 5-10cm and take on a tan-beige-ish coloring. If doesn't go well, you would've only lost 10 bucks but try your best anyways.

dont let it die in the tank either...... if it looks like the end pull it or it will foul the tank and you may lose more then just the 10 dollar nem.

Now that I look at it, it isn't really yellow. It is like a light beige.

light to medium beige is the right color. Good luck with it.

I kept one for about a year in a 10 gallon under similar light before I sold it. just feed it a few times a week. Smaller pieces are better than huge ones.

Yeah. when I saw it only about 1/2" or less was sticking out of the sand. The owner said it was $10 so I said OK. Then the employee bagged it up and it turns out that most of it was buried in the sand! It was one of the biggest in the tank!

Yes, the right color for Sabae Anemone with light purple tip. Others are dyed (no good). I bought mine a year ago when it was about 3" and now > 15" in 90 gallon under a Current Nova Extreme with 6-T5 bulbs. Good luck with beautiful creature. Here is its pix taken by phone so not clear enough.
