Seleniod on calcium reactor

I am planning on setting up a calcium reactor but the calcium reactor didnt come with a seleniod but came with everything else. Do i really need to have it?

You can absolutely run a reactor without a solenoid and pH controller, however I believe the vast majority of us do run with both for safety sake.
