First off I'd like to start with, is it a type of Monti?

Second how would one remove it from the rock it's on...in a mostly unstressful way

Yes it is a monti, I do not know a way to remove it that would not result in many pieces of monti.

I'd recommend a little bit of epoxy putty, to get it to fit where you want it to. I've had the best luck with a bit of super glue gel applied to a clean base, a small lump of epoxy putty, and then a bit more super glue gel to adhere to the aquarium rock. Helps even more if you gently brush off the mounting location and frag mount with with an old toothbrush first to remove any surface film/algae before applying the super glue. The old frag mount will be overgrown in no time.

Take it to your nearest LFS with a coral cutting band saw and ask them to cut it right along the base of the monti. Its a very easy cut.

If you can't do that, a dremel with a diamond ring will do, but you'll have to be careful on such a small piece without damaging the edges or your fingers lol

Beat of luck.

A bandsaw, sure. But looking closely at the picture, don't think I'd attempt it with a dremel.

Really think you should just use the rock it's on. It'll encrust and grow over everything in no time.

Yes, that's why I said you would have to be very careful. Dremel would be a last resort and prob a two person job. I would also leave it and let it grow, or surround it with tons of epoxy to give it the shape you want. Maybe even stick some rubble in the epoxy while it's soft to make it look more natural when it grows over it.

Is it really encrusted on the rock or just glued onto it? If it's just glued onto it you could probably pop it off with a screwdriver.

That looks like one of those Bali maricultured colonies, those are glued onto the rock at the facility and aren't growing on the rock. I used to import those all the time, you can pop them right off with a butter knife.
