Serpent star missing legs..

First off i very rarely see my star..He comes out at night every now and then..Well this morning i see a piece of leg..But i was late for work so i had to take off..Well i am at work and my girl calls me and tells me the star fish is out and has no legs..He is mainly just a body..SO i had her pull him out and put him in the sump..My question is what did this? I thaught my tank was pieceful..Here is my list..

Yellow strip Maroon
Diamond Goby
Coral Banded SHrimp
Some Mexican Turbos
A hand full of assorted hemits..

I am thinking if anyone it was the shrimp.. :mad2:
Any help would be appreciated..Also not sure if this is in the right forum or not..

could be stress, additive in the water, not enough food, how do the legs look near where they came off? clean cut or like rotting?

They look clean cut and there were some pieces in the tank that looked the same..I have had him for probobly close to 2 monthes.. The only thing i have put in since him was the goby..But the goby doesn't seem to be aggresive twords anything..He just likes his hole and runs to it whenever something scares him..As for food, i feed the anemone every 3 days with a piece of krill and i feed the clown and the rest of the tank between 5 and 10 pellets of food at night..

just wondering. I have one that dropped one arm. had a brittle that did the same thing yours is doing. was just an idea.

well mine didn't just loose one arm it lost them all..All that is left is the body and about a 1/4 inch of leg all the way around..

watch your hermits when feeding! I had a serpent have the same thing happen. One leg got caught in a powerhead, i solvd that with a sponge cover. Then i noticed that as soon as the star snagged a morsel to eat, there were atleast two hermits on his leg trying to steal the food. The got more and more aggressive, and sometimes they would just straight eat his leg. Then the urchin did him in completely.

What gets me is it doesn't seem like whatever did it was eating his legs..They just cut them off..Do i have some kind of mofia type fish here WHat should i do with the star while he has no legs, i'm kinda scared to put him back in the tank and the sump isn't very big..
