Setting Up a 20G QT

My Red Sea Purple Tang has developed Ich in my main tank, so i'm going to take her out to QT. She is still eating like a pig, but covered in ich.

I have a 20g QT tank set up with water from my main tank. Bare bottom, no rock, just a PVC pipe for the fish to hide in.

Filtration is just a hang on the back filter that has the carbon pad removed and replaced with a filter sponge. Plus, a heater that is set to 82. Light is only turned on for an hour or two in the evening so I can watch her.

Salinity is kept low, at 1.017-1.019.

Water is tested daily, and changed if necessary.

All of this sounding okay?

What is the best treatment for ich in my QT tank? Copper?

How would I go about introducing copper to the tang, I hear the can't take copper very well...

ANy suggestions would be very helpful.. I don't want to loose this tang... :(

hypo or copper but not both

copper is a sure cure but some tangs can take it and some cant

i dont have a purple tang but i am in treatment with copper (seachem cupramine) on a medium yellow tang, small blue tang, clown, dottyback, 3 chromis

since the seachem cupramine is not as harsh as true copper, you can raise the level of cupramine in the qt tank slowly every week. when you reach the level of cupramine (copper) in the tank, you will need to then start on a couple of weeks of full treatment. so from start to finish, id say like 6 to 10 weeks. 2 weeks to get copper level to full treament, then 4 weeks of treatment, then 2 weeks of bringing down copper to normal saltwater. then back to main tank. this is my option, many others do what they feel is best.

if you do copper, most of the treatments are 2 weeks max of copper. and copper has to come in contact with ich when they are out of the fish, if the ich is still inside the fish, copper may not be able to kill them so that is why i go with 4 weeks with cupramine and make sure ich is gone.

good luck
