SH- Question about changing colors??

So how does it work with seahorses changing colors? some people say it occurs naturally as they grow, some people say it depends on their surroundings? I bought what was called a "Yellow Seahorse" from the LFS but they are actually brown with silver bands, so I'm not sure exactly what species they are. Will they turn yellow/change colors as they get bigger??

You can't tell species based on color! Seahorses can and do change colors. There are many variables involved, such as diet, surroundings, stress, other seahorses, genetic makeup, etc. Your seahorse may or may not change colors.

I have 2 pairs of reidi, one was black and the other was yellow when I first got them. When placed in my tank both grayed out with black bands. I have since added some yellow gorg and a sun coral. All 4 are now turning a cool pale yellow/orange color with darker bands.
