What's your logic behind that?

Also please share a photo of your Reef.

You asked for input :)

I do think that the input should come with a little more info :wavehand:

It is hard to judge as this is not a compatition but a hobby and as the saying goes " one mans trash is on mans treasure " in another words everyone is going to have their own idea's on how a tank should look.

IMO I love to see all the different way's one can set-up a tank

It s look too packed. Less rock with nice aquascape=more room for corals. What you wanna do is a reef tank not a live rock fish only tank. If I were you, I'm gonna put most of the rock in the sump/fudge keep some nice piece of rock for the display. Keep in mind that rock is for biofiltration not for decoration. Also the sand is too thick. Sand bed is the nutrient sources so less sand=less algea

I agree with less rock but I'm an SPS guy. As far as the sand goes I think you're fine. The "Less sand=less algae" comment is just hilarious though.

Lol that a from experience man, the tank look pretty new so that's why the less the better. The point is he ask for input to make his tank look better. Of course he doesn't want to end up with brown-ish sand bed :)

Wait until the tank catch up proportionally with the bioloads then slowly add more sand will be a better way. Anyway you can pm me for sps exchange later on. I have 30 g nuvo stock with all sps

And here goes the sand bed debate.

I think your sand bed looks good. It's a display tank and you should display how you like. You'll find a split on whether or not to run your sand bed "deep" or " shallow" or even "bare".

You do not have a deep bed by anybody's standard in the hobby. I've run sand beds 2 inches for 25 years and never really had problems. But I do like running a sifting gobbie to keep it looking clean.

I've also ran deep sand beds and bare bottom tanks. It's all in how you take care of your equipment and your tank maintenance.

As far as your display of rocks, again it's what do you like. We used to pack a tank full of live rock in the 90's. Now it's the minimalist approach. Both work. Proven. Yes by years of experience not just months.

One word of advice is to keep that water moving when you have a lot of rock. That's the hard thing to overcome. Makes sense that the water cannot move thru rock very well. Dead spots create problems.

Do your display the way you like. Let everyone else pound sand. Or not sand. Or deep sand. Hell I don't know.

Thanks buddy I do try to keep flows high through the tank so far so good but only time will tell.

The tank looks nice. It will be a few more months before the pink coralline shows up, then you'll have to fight it to keep it from covering everything after that. I have a Yellow Eyed Kole too. Awesome fish.

I completely agree. Any one of the three ways to sand will work. Less sand, more sand or no sand have nothing to do with amounts of algae. Obviously depends on your equipment, water quality and maintenance/feeding routine.
