Shedd Aquarium Prop System

I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and made it by the aquarium. What an awesome place. They grow from frags and by collecting coral sperm and eggs. After it is collected it is sent to the aquarium and put in tanks. The tanks bottoms are covered with ceramic tiles that the gametes eventually settle on and develope. Very, very interesting!

Here are a few pics of their propogation system.

Display that they take frags out of. It would look much better under some 14 or 20K's.

The growth rate is faster if you use 10k bulbs or less. Shedd's Aquarium is very nice and one of my favorite ones that I have been to.

For their purposes 10K is the right way to go. I would have rather looked at it with 20K's though!:D

How did you get to see that? A couple of weeks ago I went on the behind the scenes tour and didnt see that.

I'm pretty sure it's part of the public coral reef exhibit. At least, it was when I went there back in July '08. You can even see the plaque for the display at the bottom of both of the photos.

It looks like they finally got some new pendants for it. They were using some really old looking bell-shaped ones when I visited.

Anyway, cool photos. Thanks for sharing.
