Shimming a tank stand

I am setting up a 250 gallon marineland deep dimension in my basement soon but have to shim the tank stand to make it level all the way around. I bought composite shims from lowes that are able to handle up to 16000lbs, just wondering if there are any tips or methods to make sure i do it correctly.

Thanks

Have you considered using a crushable foam under the stand to help level it? I am not sure if it is the best option but it seems like it would be more consistient compared to a shims at single points.

You can also use this foam between the tank and the stand itself.

I agree about the foam, not for leveling. If there's room try and push the shims from both sides, in towards each other. That way both shims acting together will be flat. I would shim every few inches around the stand and make sure there is plenty of support on all four corners. That's where rimmed tanks need the most support. I also have a Marineland tank, a 180 however. I called Marineland and they DO NOT recommend foam under the bottom rim of the tank. And remember, shim the stand not the tank. ;)

Click my homepage if you need some pics to look at. I tried to put together a tutorial on how I shimmed my tank/system.
