Shimming an iron stand?

I will have an open iron stand and I'm curious how I am supposed to level or shim the stand?

Also is there anything I can do to protect the hardwood underneath? Maybe felt?

thanks

Shimming...I have no idea.

However I am getting a new tank/stand as well.
When I was in Home Depot I saw rolls of linoleum, the fake tile flooring, in many colors and panels.
I am thinking about buying some to match the tank room.
It's cheap, tough, waterproof, and they cut to size.

Hope this helps,
Sean

Have you had a chance to see the stand? Many metal stands will have "feet" that are adjustable. If not, you can use matching pieces of hardwood to shim the stand (use whatever thickness you need) and protect the floor.

I know that large steel stands are always shimmed with cold rolled steel, and not with self levelers as the threaded levelers will strip under the weight.

If its a light stand/tank you can shim with wood wedges. If its heavy, use steel wedges, or simply steel sheet or angle stock cut to fit.
