Shipping Zoa's

I'm looking to ship some zoa's to a fellow reefer, but have never sent them before. I would like to keep it as cheap as possible, for both our sakes, how would you recommend I ship them?

I've heard about using a thermos, but not sure what kind and how to pack them in there. Any info would be helpful.

The last couple of times I received zoas in the mail, the guy wrapped the frags in a well soaked with saltwater paper towel. That was placed in a couple of zippy bags.

He sent that via USPS.

This is what I have done with good results....I go and buy a small thermos like the kind that looks like a Campbell's soup can. I take tank water and fill it up to about an inch and a half from the top. I then place a frag at the bottom and put some plastic strips cut from old LFS bags, this takes up space inside the thermos. I then place another frag in on top of the plastic and then I add some more plastic strips to take up the rest of the open space. I screw the inner top on real tight.....Check for leaks if there are no leaks I screw back on the read top tape around that nice and tight so if there is a leak it don't leak out of the red top. I then put that into a foam cooler lined box tape it up and ship.....

Cool, thanks for the info. I think i'll try the thermos route.

Temp. stays good over a 2 day journey?

Yeah as long as its not crazy hot, and then zoa's are pretty hearty. I have had some make it 7 days in a thermos.

most of the zoas i've received through the mail were in water and triple bagged, then just put in either a styrofoam box or regular cardboard box with packing peanuts. they've all made it just fine.

I do not recommend thermo and wet towel method right now.
And do not recommend any shipping takes two or more days.
It is because of hot wheater now and especially because of hot air of shipping truck. If you not use cool pack and good conditioned styrofoam box for two day shipping, your corals will be dead and rotten in hot truck. If you send coral by thermo and wet towel method, wait till around october or november.

I've done double bag & styro & I've shipped in a lightly styro lined box with thermos. The thermos method is ALOT cheaper for the buyer, I've had people say the bags leaked but never the thermos suprisingly, & a few have said the polyps were out in the thermos.

Seem to like that better :)
