shocking problem

Ok I guess I should have found a eletrical guy sooner . Last night the downstairs tank over flowed . Everything is very wet pumps cords power strips everything . I was not thinking and went over to the chiller to see why it was flashing codes at me . Everything was running as normal so I really did not think anything about the tingle in my feet until I touch the button on the chiller . At this time I got the biggest shock I have ever felt . Went upstairs and the water temp was way low 72 low this is a issue . Very carefully check the salinity upstairs and added salt downstairs ( which was a shocking time because the power is running through the cement floor ) go figure . I was late for work so I didn't shut everything down . I will when I get home tonight . I have had my wife making sure nothing catches fire down stairs allday . She says you can feel the power through the floor still but everything seems to be running fine except the chiller it isn't working at all .

I thinking the chiller/heater is the source of the power through the floor just not sure . I will be unplugging it when I get home tonight .

Is latex gloves just as good as rubber ones ? I think if I wear my shoes and wear rubber gloves I should be able to get to the chiller plug without having to get shocked .

Things I need to do
1. Make table to lift sump and things off of floor
2. Have electrical boxs run
3. Buy new heater
4. Kick my own butt for not doing this sooner

Just thought I would share

Is the breaker box in a different location? You would be best off flipping the breaker(s) before you go messing with anything.

Breaker box downstairs in fish room . I think I can get to it without a issue . I agree

I find it interesting the the power is running through the floor . The dry part of the floor at that .

make sure when unplugging the chiller to only use one hand and just your thumb and first finger. then it will hopefully travel only through two fingers. any gloves should work as long as not wet and no metal in them.

I have a call into dave AKA Lost Marbles . I am hoping to hear from him tonight . I will need to do something real soon . Of course money is going to be a issue so I need to get a idea of cost first .

Thanks for the advise

John

I thought I gave you my phone number. I will come over right away. I don't care if I get shocked. I will do emergency calls for anyone one on RC. I need a good laugh every now and then.
Phone home 636-282-0032. Dave :D Money is no big deal to me when your going to loose your tank. I rather keep people in the hobby then get mad and quit. What dress did you want me to were again? :D

Hey John (DST)
After you get the electrical resolved, you might want to look into these utility tiles I picked up from home depot. They are black rubber 1x1 tiles that are like a design you own work mat. I have them in my fish tank room which is also in the basement. I have never recieved a shock with those in there, and I have had some weird electrical issues. They are like 9 or 12 bucks a box, and has 10 ruber tiles in it. They are slotted so water won't sit on them.

What is the brand name of the tiles? I have been looking for them and have not been able to find them at the Home Depot near me.

Dave I called your cell phone . If we can meet up this weekend saturday night or anytime sunday would be great. I thank you in advance for any help .

I have fixed the problem so far . My wife bought me a pair of rubber gloves and when I got home after going to MS to buy a titaium heater , I was able to remove the heater /chiller and that solved the eletricial issue . I can put my hand in the tank and walk downstairs again . Still need to have boxs run and still need to make stands to lift sump and pumps off of floor . I did however kick myself in the butt many times last night .

You can probably find a better deal on rubber mats at a restaurant supply store if you have a decent sized fish room. They are larger ones with holes in them to allow water to not build up and prevent slipping. They also connect

I can ask a friend of mine about the rubber mats. He works at B & J Peerless Restaurant Supply in Overland.

They are called Multy~tile and our made by Multy Industries Flexible Products Group Inc. I love these things, but I have not seen them at home depot in about a year, at least the one by my house. I only have a half a box left and I wanted to do my laundry room in them, will have to find them on the web.
