shops left in B'ham

I am partial to Aquarium Designs...it is always clean and the staff is pretty good. I don't like the new location as well but it's pretty good. I finally got to go to Tropical Pet Cove a couple of weeks ago, and other than being pretty cramped, was happy with the experience.

Hey guys, we're driving up to B'Ham tomorrow and I'll have some time to visit a LFS or two. We're staying near the Colonnade, but will be in the Galleria area as well dropping off and picking up my wife from her sisters wedding shower. I found Aquarium Designs on google but saw the post about them moving. Their address on google is:

Aquarium Designs moved down 31 toward Pelham on the right beside Mayer Lighting. I was also at Tropical Pet Cove last weekend and found out that they are moving up the street from where they are now into a building that is 4 times larger than where they are now and Daryl is planning on stocking much more coral.

I was at tropical Pet Cove last week and got a very nice wrasse.
Glad to hear they are moving to a larger store.
Where is Aquarium Designs moving to in pelham? That is much closer to me than their Galleria location.

Went to check out Aquarium Designs yesterday as haven't been since they moved and they were closed.:mad2: Hours posted said supposed to be open. So drove around and found Tropical. Was very unimpressed with them. Lots of dead fish in tanks and other reptiles and such poorly cared for. First time going there and won't take the drive again. I so wish we had better stores around birmingham area. By the way tried Aquarium Designs again a few hours later and still not open. Aquarium Imports never has anything much, started out there. So came home after driving all day and ordered from Live Aquaria. Should have saved the gas.:lol: I guess call Designs before you make the trip.

There's pretty much 4 places to go in B'ham from what I can tell now. Never been to Tropical, then there's AquaD, AquaImports, and some place in downtown homewood. Forget the name of the place in homewood, but they basically only have saltwater fish - nothing else (saltwater wise). I personally am partial to Aquarium Imports, but thats proly just cause I've been going there for 2+ years. I feel as though those guys really know what they're talking about if you're looking for some good friendly advice. They don't always have the coral selection that AquaD does, but the frags they do have are quite large and I think quite a deal.
I think the move down to Pelham for AquaD was the best thing that could've ever happened to them. From what I hear rent was WAYYYY too high at the Gallaria for a LFS and everytime I was in there there was always tons of people looking at the cool tanks but no-one buying anything. From what I've seen recently, the move to Pelham has allowed them to bring their prices much more back into the reasonable/competitive range!
For anyone trying to get to AquaD, I was down there the other day at the new location and picked up a business card. Here's the address. Like others say, its not always open when its supposed to be, and they don't always get in all the livestock that they promise when they promise to - so I'd definetly call ahead before heading down there.
