Short term overflow box size?

I am upgrading my 75 to a 90 in the spring. The 90 is drilled. I want to add a sump to the 75 for the winter. I have 300 gph return pumps I can use and I also have 700 gph return pumps I can use. Would an overflow box like the Eshopps pf300 and a 300 gph pump be enough flow through a 25 gallon sump?

I personally would go with the 700, it's really not much more expensive, but the 300gph would work it would just limit the effectiveness of your sump and whatever you put in there. Being honest i only have about 700 gph through my sump and its on a 90 gallon with a 80 gallon sump, which is low flow.

Also if the tank is already successful without a sump a small sump will only do more good and whichever route you go will be helpful.

Hope this helped a little, good luck!

I have a GHA problem. That is the reason for adding the sump. If Chae to does not help knock it out I will be putting an algae scrubber in the sump.

I think a 75 is right on the edge between the 800 and the 300. So I would go by price.
But. You might want to calculate your pump flow after head loss. These overflows need the water to move through the u-tube fast enough that any little bubbles that get sucked in are pushed though instead of gathering at the top of the u. If the 700gph pump is a few feet below the DT it might be pushing less than the pf800 needs. Just a thought.
