Should I install a GFCI for my aquarium?

I'm still in the process of setting up my tank mainly the plumbing and such almost there... Anywho I gotto thinking as I started placing things and seeing all these electrical wires near my sump and tank abovei couldn't help but think hmm should I be plugging into. GFCI receptacle. My outlet is lucky to one side so with the tank being off the wall some for overflow I could reach my hand to the reset switch if ever needed once the tank was full. Anyway I plan on adding water soon so I need to decide soon we than later while it's still relatively easy to move.

Yes, but do not use the wall mounted version, they suck, and will fail one day.
Buy the one that goes inside the breaker panel, those are 100% better, and easier to replace.

:uhoh3: Most important to have GFIC around anything with water. Kids, animals, or you. Remember better safe than dead. Also the circuit you are going to use for your tank make sure that it can handle the extra load of your tank items. Also you have to be careful of salt water around your electric outlet. Just saw an article about a fire in a home and they put the blame on salt getting into the outlet and corroding the contacts. Make sure your set up is safe. Its a great hobby but take the time to set it up right.

Thanks everyone, it looks like I'm covered. I did some tracing of my home circuits and found out my tanks outlet is on the same outlet as my guest bath which has GFCI. Yea it's outlet protected instead of a breaker version but protected nonetheless and it's easy to access and replace if ever needed. I was prepared to have to track down the right breaker for my panel :)

My entire system is GFI protected, I use two separate breakers for each of my EB8s and divided the equipment so that if one failed or tripped while I was away the other could support life in the system until I could fix it.

Also very important is keeping it all dry.

I made this board to mount everything too, all the power supplies and outlets. Keeps everything nice high and about any water or splash. I used a 12 gauge/20 amp extension cable for each EB8 so I could keep the actual wall outlet far from water, ~10'. Its nice having modern wiring because I feel safer.
