Should I upgrade to ASM G2?

Guys,

My 90G just turned 1 year old this week. In recent weeks, i get excessive algae on the glass, some green hair algae, and LOTS of brown algae on the rocks.

Other than upgrading my sump to a bigger one (10g more now), everything else stayed the same - same water quality, mainteneance, lighting schedule, etc...)

I have the Urchin Pro skimmer and it pulls a cupfull every other day.
I keep hearing about the skimmer "not keeping up" - what does that mean exactly?

how would my situation improve if i went with a G2?

wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a drain fitting for the Urchin Pro Cup and let it wet skim and pull more everyday?

im confused.

Theres a g2 on Recycler.com under "aquariums" in LA for 140. Someone should jump on that.

I've had both the urchin and a g2 and could say the g2 will produce more with darker skimate. The Aqua C is a great skimmer but on a 90 I go with the G2-G3.

1. did u get a drain fitting for the g2 cup
2. is the cup much bigger than the urchin pro cup

Should just get the G3 or an ASM skimmer with at least the sedra 5000.

ive got a big 8-2 skimmer with needlewheel impeller for sale. let me know if you are interested. Mint condition. few months old, works just awesome. I had it on my 36x24x24.

i have a asm g2 on my 90 cube w/ 30 gallon sump/ fuge. it was decent at first but i just put a gate valve and reciruclating mod on it and this thing kicks butt. i get some real nasty gunk out now

u guys using drain mod as well? if not, how often do u empty the cup?
also...whats the difference between G1X and G2 ?

i empty the cup about once a week. i dont have a drain valve. the g2 has a larger diameter body than the g1x

The cup on the G2 is bigger then the urchin, I dont have a fitting and only clean it out once a week but I do very little feeding. I now have a g3 on my 90gal and I do agree go with a G3 vs. a G2. I did see a big performance diff between the two.

ive never used a remora but i like my g2 better than the backpack and the turboflotor 100 ive used before

ok guys I got a G2 with a sendra 5000. I can let it run a whole month and the collection cup won't be even at half. Is there something wrong with my asm g2? I have
3, 3 inches tangs,
copperband 4 inches,
and 2 royal gamma.

I don't know why I'm not getting that much nasty stuff. I have zoo and ricordia and a few leather.
