I got into the saltwater hobby three years ago, but the freshwater aspect of it three years ago. We had just moved, and my mom felt bad for me and got me a little blue betta fish. I named him Cato, after the tribute in the hunger games, as betta's are very very aggressive. I love him so much. We got him at petsmart, and no cycling, no heater, just a plant, some gravel, and a 1 gallon fish bowl. I'm happy to say that Cato, after four years, is still alive and kicking some serious butt. He's now in a nice 5 gallon tank all to himself, with a heater, and is fed frozen every day! The lucky guy..
Now onto the actual Saltwater part of this forum.. I had started to research how to breed bettas, and stumbled upon a youtube video of John Coppolino's (Copps on RC) reef. I was stunned, and instantly in love. I knew I had to get a reef. My parents, however, were not too happy with the idea. 100 gallons of saltwater on our hardwood floors? No thank you!
I found out about ReefCentral, by google. I had already planned a stocking list, picking out fish from Live Aquaria. I think it went like this:
75 gal tank
Yellow Tang
Hippo Tang
Niger Trigger
Clown Pair
Volitan Lionfish
So, anyone who knows anything about stocking will say that, "You're screwed." And I would've been without this website.
Slowly, reading about an hour a day for almost a year, I slowly learned, that no, I couldn't keep all those fish in a 75, and yes, people do know a lot more than me and I am not an exception.
And today, looking at my tank, fiddling with it, I realized how much I love this community, and the helpfulness we show with newbies, and how badly I would've done with the advice of my local fish store.
I just wanted to shout out a couple people, and show off a couple pictures.My fish are pretty great

Dkuhllman(Dave): Great advice, you showed a lot of patience when I was being stubborn. Thanks!
