i have never housed a shrimp but i am intrested in one. thinking about a skunk cleaner shrimp, sexy shrimp or a blood shrimp. how hard are they to care for? thanks for the advice

Easy if properly acclimated, but they can steal food out of your corals (if you're keeping LPS and feed them). Cleaner and sexy safe, but I haven't keep a blood in over 20 years and never in a true reef, so I'll let someone else chime in on that one.

I've got a skunk cleaner in my 24g Aquapod. I added it last week and seems to be doing well. It's not cleaning the fish just yet, or me for that matter, but it eats and moves about quite a bit.

what exactly is the proper way to acclimate a shrimp? i take it that it is different from acclimating fish.

I have a cleaner and 2 peppermints in my 10 gallon nano, a few months no problemo's to date :)

i used to have a cleaner but he always stole all the food that i had to spot feed for my sun coral. So i put him in my 55. I'm gonna get a sexy shrimp just because they are smaller and i don't think i will get the same results.

i hear that you need to supplement iodine to shrimp. has everyone done this? how often and what type of iodine to you find to work the best?

Maybe in larger reefs, but from everything I've read dosing a nano should not be done. Weekly water changes should be sufficient to replace any depleted trace elements.

i got a skunk cleaner for the lfs today and couldnt be happier. i drip acclimated him and he is doing great. he is constantly moving around and allready eating out of my hand. definently a good choice.

It's cheaper and easier to do water changes than buy iodine and the test kit. I've had a peppermint in a ten gallon over two years without supplements.
