Shrinkage

Is it possible that a tank can be so clean that zoanthids dont get enough "food"? I have had several colonies grow real well over several months. Then the heads over a period of two weeks or so will decrease in size. They look ok but just shrink in size. I have looked many times at night and day with magnifying glasses. Nothing munching.I have a 36" deep tank with 20k xm mh. Some zoanthids high and some low. Doesn't seem to matter. They just shrink, so seems like maybe a starvation or nutrition problem?

you really have a 36inch deep tank? That's quite a deep tank. With 20,000K xms, you might not have enough light... what wattage are you using for your bulbs?

..side note; I grew up in Geneseo. Where in Rochester are you?

The tank is 48" x 24" x 36" tall. Its a 170 gallon. Nice to look in without having to bend over. They are 2-250W. Not enough. I leave them on for 5 hrs. Maybe leave them on for 6 hrs.

I have tons of Zoas, most are growing just fine, while one just doesnt open and is disappearing, that one i got from online and was direct from the ocean, the rest i got from fellow reefer. And i have a 30in tall tank, but using 8xT5. and i've read that zoas coming directly from ocean will not do as well as the one grown in a tank.

These zoas were obtained from a local saltwater shoppe. I dont know where he got them from. Pathogen? Like what are you thinking? What do I look for?
