Shuran Jetstream or Deltech PF600, which one would you choose?

I am in the market for a new calcium reactor, which one of these would you choose and why. Pro and cons for both through your direct experience is appreciated.

GEO.

Made in the USA - if there is a problem, you will get it fixed quickly. Also, they are kik-arse reactors.

i have been reading up on the all of the popular reactors that are on the market.

when i say reading i mean i have read the maufactures sites, googled it, did searches on here, read pages and pages of post etc... i mean i really did my homework, or a a thesis paper for that matter.

i have come to the conclusion that when i get the money together i will be getting a SCHURAN. IMO,i think it is the best on the market, and if for any rason i fall short of the SCHURAN i will get the GEO. by the way, if you decide to get the SCHURAN i would suggest reading up on it because from what i ahve learned about it, it uses a different type of media, and it operates much differently than the others (including GEO).....

i would stay far away from the others because of post that i have read about leaks, degeneration of the o-rings and acrylic, bad customer service, and trouble dailing it in....

hope this helps a bit

Yeah, the shuran uses CaCO3 pellets, a few months ago the pellets were difficult to find according to some, but as they gain more popularity, easier to get...

good point, anyone else, Shuran attracted me because it recycles the CO2.

I don't know of a calc reactor that doesn't recycle the CO2 to some degree of other, although I had read that the Schuran was very efficient at the recycling.

We have a Deltec, but had also recently looked at the Schurans. The main thing that put us off was the sensitivity of the feed pump and it's requirements. I also heard that they needed alot of CO2 to maintain the reactor, but don't honestly know.

There are a couple of good threads here on RC about it :

The one thing that impressed me about the Schuran was the claim that it could dissolve an entire chamber full of media in 1 month, if needed.

Sparkss,
I was nice meeting you at Rameal's place the otherday in San Jose, anything you don't like about the Deltech Cal reactor and wanting to switch to Shuran, Deltech is more expensive but the pellet is more expensive for Shuran, more than $5.00/lb.

ahhh, hello again... :) Rommel is a great guy, we don't get down his way often enough :D

I had always felt that the Deltec reactor media was hard to come by and, even when found, rather expensive. I had thought that the Schuran media was much cheaper, but then again since I don't own one and never had to buy it myself, I really can't say.

I had issues with the Deltec providing sufficient calc to meet the demands of our tank (and the Deltec was way oversized for the tank at that). It turned out I had feed issues and once I got that cleared up and enough water flowing through the unit it started working beautifully. At the time we bought it we were just starting to learn about the online resources available to us reefers and knowing what we know now perhaps would have gone with a Schuran. But again, it was not available locally (the Deltec was) and we had not even heard of the Schuran (If marine Depot didn't sell it, I didn't much about it back then... and that applied to alot of things, not just calcium reactors :)).

BTW, are you coming to the frag swap this weekend ? :)

Don't want to make this as a BAR thread, but I am still debating if I want to risk myself to get red bugs or AEFW and more dangerously their eggs. I am going to be there for sure to get a bottle of TM coral cure from Frank. How unique are the SPS that members usually bring to the swap?

Dunno.. will be our first.. never could get the free time before now :)

Just dip everything.. you stand just as much risk picking up a pest there as you do at an LFS. :)
