sicce 5.0 return pump

I bought the Sicce 5.0 for my 120 gallon dual overflow tank. Just want opinions. Do i use Tubing from return pump and then convert to PVC? Or do i just go PVC from pump with a union just above it for maintenance?

If your dead set on PVC, then I would just attach the union to the pump itself, or maybe a couple inches above the waterline.

I run PVC then a 9" piece of silicone tubing for the final connection to the pump to reduce noise transmission from the pump to the pipe.

I ran pvc to my sicce 4.0. I'd suggest using the suction cup feet. I have no vibration transfer to the pvc. Just make sure you cut the pvc long, and then gradually shorten it to where the feet are still supporting the pump.

I have 2 unions on mine (a 4), first running 10" of reinforced 1" hose from the pump to a union, then hard lined it to the back of the bulkhead for a second union. Should be a breeze to clean the pipes out now if my flow starts to lag. I did a similar thing on the siphon line of my Bean.

The inability to clean out my lines was a point of consternation once my first system got to be around a year old. Never again.

When you go from return pump with hose to a union, how do you connect the hose into the union? What is used (adapter) or is it glued or clamped?

Use a hose barb fitting. They sell them at Home Depot and Lowes.

Exactly. That's the main reason I went with 1" piping - counteracts the restriction in diameter imposed by the barb. Plus 1" pipe has less friction than 3/4.

There's also flex PVC if you want to go that route, but I opted for more flexibility.

So your saying use 1 inch silicone tubing from return pump into a 1 inch male barb fitting and then i'll put in a cepex ball valve 1 inch and continue all the way to tank 1 inch and right before bulk head reduce back down to 3/4inch into my 3/4inch bulkhead. Sound right?

Unions are cheap, I actually bought one each of a slip and a threaded, took them apart and used one end of each to go from hose to pvc.
