Ok you guys with the big tanks..there is no way you have to get in there and scrap diatoms of the glass?acrylic every 4 days...for the past two years I have been struggling with this problem. I have 0 nitrate I skim 24/7 I use ro/di water tropic marin salt
kalk drip I run a phosban reactor with a nitrate/silica remover media (cant remember the brand) I admit I have not tested for silica yet...soon getting a test kit. I just can't figure were the silica is coming from. I removed 90% of my substrate last week thinking that may be it and still the little buggers show up!!! I'm about ready to throw in the towel, but have too much invested. I have a 100 gallon clarity plus flat back hex. 2/ 250 15k xm halides new a couple weeks ago. 20 gal sump 30 gal refugium with macro algae. Can someone help me please!!!!

are they on anything else ? if not this is a normal thing I have tro clean mine every week. Diatoms would be on your sandbed and pretty-much everywhere else if it was a problem

I had a problem with them on the sand but that went away.

I posted this in the large tank forum because I figured that would be a huge job on a large tank, and you guys would have a solution. I did suspect that it may be normal but what a pian.
thanks

I have a magnavore so I guess it's normal just have to stay on top of it .

Very normal. It's more normal on acrylic than glass tanks. :)
