Sick anemone?

So my anemone has been acting strange lately, he has been balled up and deflated, inflated, then stretched very far out, and hides. I snapped a quick picture of him, he will not eat either.

I have also tested my parameters they are as follows
PH: 8.0
Temp: 79.8F
Salinity: 1.025
Nitrates: 10ppm
Nitrites: 0
Phosphate: 0
Calcium: 440
Carbonate: 10/179ppm KH

They do crazy things when they are about to split.. May be the case here.. Not sure...

How long have you had it and what has it been doing up to this?

Types of food and agressiveness of the clowns?

I've had it for about 2 months, and he has been eating pieces formula one, The clowns are not aggressive at all towards it, they help feed it and defend it from unwanted cleaner shrimp

Do u feed anything else? To much pellet food is hard to digest for them and allot of vitamins.he has great Colorado just watch him closely. For awhile. Do u have any corals or other nems upstream or near him or tin the tank? If so could be chemist warfare starting.if so change carbon and do water change see if that helps.how old are you're lite bulbs or did u just change them?.just trying to help there could be nothing wrong he can just be resetling or readjusting. Gl

I do feed him a piece of precooked shrimp that i get from a friend who feeds his the same. Today he is all sorts of shrunk up and tucked up, I'm wondering if i should move him into my hospital tank. Bulbs are about 4 months old, and i have some zoanthids but the anem was doing just fine..

sometimes they just are wierd.he is in a perfect spot dont no what to tell you maybe he is beeing over loved by clowns.just give him sometime dont put in hospital yet.get some good foods and soak in selcon if he is splitting moving him will be no good.keep us posted

This is not looking good. Did you write you were feeding PRECOOKED shrimp? Do not feed cooked seafood. Feed raw seafood of "human consumption" quality. You should probably stop feeding it for several days and see what happens. From the sounds of your description it is on its way out.

I asked my friend what shrimp it was, and he said it was raw, cleaned shrimp. This morning he was plumed all the way out and basking under the moon lights, So i'm not sure what his dealio is - I'm going to hold off feeding him for awhile, i'm hoping he was maybe just constipated or something lol

Theseguys do this from time to time after a big meal one of mine closed up for 2 weeks after he pooped I thiught he was dead but then he just started opening up again that was 2 years ago so you never no.filaments coming out is not a good sighn.keep a eye on him

I will for sure, the filaments were stringy and white - But as of this morning he was plummed allthe way out and looking very big *shrug*

Ok, good. Glad to hear that. Yeah, at this point I would just leave it alone and watch it. The gaping and "stringy stuff" worries me and also the picture shows the food is only half attached.

Yeah he worried me a bit lastnight, this morning he looked normal and all filled up.. I'll shoot some pictures when i get home or when the wife goes home for lunch.

Well, you wrote you've had it for two months. My RBTA did some crazy stuff after 2 months and ended up splitting so maybe that's what's going on here. Seems like they took a while to get acclimated, then they chilled a little while, then they split. Now (a year later) those 2 just split again (when the weather turned and temperature went back down) so I have 4 RBTAs. Just picked up a green speckled for contrast and it's been in a week. Seems happy for now ... we'll see how this one adapts.

So not quiiiite sure yet. But looks a bit better then before and according to my wife he has been plumed out all day.

any luck with figuring out what's going on? I noticed my anemone doing the same thing about 5 days ago and its was stretched out, inflating, deflating, the color looks great it just spends a lot of time now stretched out(looks exactly like the first picture you posted, I can't get a pic of mine) since its been five days im starting to worry more and spend most of my time watching the tank incase ot dies so I can get it out. I've had it a little over a month now and the first two weeks it looked great. My parameters are normal : Ammonia-0 nitrates-0 nitrites-0 salinity-1.025 ph-8.2 temp-79 degrees calcium-440 just curious if you had any luck!

Sjwitt were are you from on east coast?he looks good bro. The filaments come out time to time when looping I think its to keep the clowns at bay she mouth is open but he looks good keep it up

i actually have an rbta that was doing really well for a whole month and then started showing very similar behavior for a few days. then began shrinking rapidly and lost almost all tentancles. i did everything i could think of to bring her back but she kept declining. with one last attempt before i took it out of tank i redid my rock scape and got her about 8 inches from the top of tank to give her more light. that was about 2.5 weeks ago and she is making a tremendous comeback. mouth no longer gapes ever and has gotten all tentacles back. they are very tine only about a quarter to half inch long but they were completely gone. i didnt take her off her rock just moved the rock she was on way higher up. I learned that if they are REALLY stretched out its a sign they are not getting enough light n expanding so much to try n get as much of it as they can. also make sure the shrimp is not cooked. i am a chef by profession for 15 yrs and by cooking the shrimp your cooking out a ton of the proteins and nutrients. while there is still some good nutrition in a cooked shrimp its not nearly as much as is in raw shrimp. The muscle tentons of the shrimp also become extremely contracted wjen cooked which makes it "tough" and much harder for an animal with not teeth (like a nem) to digest it and if already stressed this takes up even more energy that is very valuable to an unhealthy nem. good luck keep us updated
