Sick Fish

Only a couple of people in this forum? Sure hope somebody monitors it.

I need some help in identifying what's wrong with two of my fish that were very recently purchased.

1) A purple tang: Was bought from a person, not a store. Was healthy looking with great color when purchased. The move was obviously stressful and his color turned almost white during the transition. He's been in my tank now for only about 3-4 days. His color cam back the same day I got him. But now it appears that he has a light patch near his head that I do not believe to be HLLE. It appears simply like his "stress" color or his "sleeping" color. It either looks different at different angles or he is changing the color at will. Not sure which.

I also picked up a pair of clowns. They are in a different tank than the purple tang. Everything seemed fine with them as well untill today. I noticed that the femail has some white spots (but doesn't look like ich). The spots appear to be on the scales as well as the edge of one gill and one horn (is that what you call it?).

When she looks straight at you, you can see the white of the gill and horn sticking out from her side a bit.

The extra appendage on the maroon clown is news to me. I have no idea what that is, but if I'm not mistaken ich usually accumulates around the gills of a fish. Maybe a freshwater dip wouldn't hurt. As for the purple tang, if it's still a little pale, then it's probably still stressed out from the move. When dealing with tangs, I always leave the lights off for 2 days to let them get fully accustomed to the tank, and it makes them really hungry. Are they eating ok?

That is a gil spine on the maroon clown. It looks like you got it caught in the next when it was caught or released one of the two. Id treat it with bacterial medicine.

They are both eating and swimming fine.

There was no netting involved. We already knew the spine thing about maroons so we scooped them up into containers on capture and release.

Well maybe somehow it got caught or something either way it looks like a bacterial infection.

Today the spot by the head of my purple tang is back to its original color but he had 2 spots elsewhere. He still seems a bit skiddish in the tank. Sort of like a Blue Hippo. Are purples known to be skiddish? If not, then I think there is still a bit of stress going on with him getting used to the new tank. There was a major difference between tanks. Besides the other one being bigger its temp was also a lot lower. lcdd's tank is like at either 72 or 74. Mine is like 79-80.

The spots on the maroons side seem to be almost gone. The cheek spine and gill are still white today but fish still appears normal other than that.

Just an update on the fishes:

Purple Tang: Has ALL of his color back - I'm sure this is just stress relsted issue. He'll be fine.

Female Clown: NO white spots on side and the gill edge and spne are looking better but still there.
