Sick Toadstool

Hi,

Until recently, I had a very healthy toadstool. It is about two years old, 5-6 inches in diameter.

A spot the size of a quarter appeared on its surface and was followed by a second, slightly larger spot. I need some guidance as to what to do with this piece. My inclination it to cut the bad parts out and frag the rest.

All other livestock in the tank appear to be fine. All water parameters are within acceptable limits.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Fred

I had a S. elegans that had a similar issue -- breaking down apparently from the outside. I fragged off the good parts, like you are thinking, and found lodged inside of the coral a bright yellow snail of some sort that was eating it from the inside out. Cool, but not cool. So fragging yours out might be good in any case.

Make sure that the leather is getting decent flow, if you want to try a husbandry approach first. Low water flow can cause the sort of problem you're experiencing.
