sick yuma now with pics!

hey all!
i have read several threads about slime on a yuma means certain death, or at least it is dying, i just got a light purple with green edges last night, temp acclimated it, and put it in a low flow area, lights ore soft as well, parameters all great, don't know what to do next, if anything?

That is not looking to good, might try a furan2 dip for bac infection, other then that I would say that is about 98% gone the wrong way and won't have to much longer to live. Sorry m8.

yeah that's a drag, hate to lose anything! but just read a thread about the light purple yuma's being hard to keep, it was beautiful for about 4 hours anyway!

I have had so many Yumas do that to me that I just gave up on them. Never figured out what the deal was either, I have a few right now that I took the chance on and they are doing great(knock on wood) they are also captive propped though so I think that has made the difference.

well, i'm a newbie at this, but i have alot of help thru my lfs and here, and it sounds like it's a hit or miss thing with the survival rate, anyway, i think i'll stay away from these guys, and try something else that's more hardy, i was looking for something blue! any recommendations?

get some FLA rics or other typrs of mushrooms..

well, i just checked on the poor guy, and he has all but disintegrated! tank is alittle cloudy, pulled what was left of him out, and water is already clearing up, i'm a little bummed, this was my first loss, tank has been great up 'til now.
oh well, live and learn i guess!

Its nothing you did to kill that yuma, they simply dont fare well in home aquaria. When people post these expensive yumas they buy but then you never hear from them again, you can bet it met the same fate as yours.
I urge people to not buy yuma, were killing them at an alarming rate and they should be left in the ocean.

I kinda agree with aquarius, that is why I have only been getting yumas from propagated sources.....

i agree, everything i have puechased has been propogated as well, at least that's what they tell me! anyway, thanks for the encouragement i kept trying to figure out what i did wrong! also i told my lfs to stop telling people that these are easy to care for! based on everything i have read on these and other sites! thanks again!

not to t/j but where is a good place to buy propagated rics or yumas from? Liveaquaria has some nice ones, but all of thier's are attached to rocks.

good question amyandlars, my lfs says his are cultured or propogated, but he has a limited supply!

All three of my yumas did that when I had a mini crash when the AC went out in my office over memorial day weekend (I wasn't there to do something about it of course... figures). All three are 3rd gen or greater tank-raised yumas and all three have survived. Two of them are even fully recovered already.

It really goes to show you how hardy tank-raised ones are compared to wild ones.

If that ever happens to you again you may want to consider cutting them off at the base, as there is a chance the remaining stump will grow back into a polyp. I knew mine were pretty hardy so I took my chances and didn't try that.
