Silicone removal

Hi gang,

Anyone know what solvent I could use to remove silicone from a glass tank? There is a little "thread" of silicone that looked like it was the end of a bead that is on the front pane. I thought it was a crack at first but luckily it is just residual sealant.

thanks

You can try to scrape it with a razer blade. How close to the edge of the tank is it and is it noticable? If it is out of sight or at the bottom where the sand is going to be, i would not worry about it.

Hi davewbush, thanks for the reply. The razor blade worked well, the string of silicone was pretty close to the top trim on the front so it was sort of noticeable. All gone now!

thanks

I'm glad you got it off. If there was a solvent that would take away silicone, I don't think you would want it in your tank. I've seen that stuff get hit with cutting tourches and it doesen't even burn or melt away. I just turns red hot.
