Simple still works right?

I've notice some very nice reef tanks with monster set-up behind them. Sumps, refugium, calcium reactor, controllers, skimmers , auto top up and monster octupus hoses pipes etc.]
Its still nice to know that aquarium , powerheads and skimmer still work well also.
Don't let those aquariums scare you from trying.

Totally agree...I've only been in this hobby for a year and I have had success with little or no algae problems/fish deaths using just some powerheads, a HOB skimmer, and a basic lighting system. I don't see what all the fuss is about...haha.
Then again, I don't have any corals in yet so we'll see what troubles I find with that...

Both my reefs are pretty simple setups. The 21g is skimmerless with live sand & rock, canister filter and a powerhead. The 65g is BB with a little DIY HOB fuge, a HOB skimmer, canister filter and four PHs. I add topoff water and things like kalk via a DIY drip setup similar to a Kent Aquadose. Both tanks are doing really well with no nusiance algae and healthy corals. I have nothing at all against systems that virtually run themselves -- in fact, I dream about having a 300g with all the bells and whistles some day -- but for now KISS seems to be working for me :D
