I have a spare 29 gallon AGA with a hood and a 30" single fluorescent T12 lamp.
All I have in the tank is 1 black molly and about 30 lbs of live rock, been curing for two months. Couple of really small powerheads on the bottom to keep the detris suspended so it can be filtered out by the HOB. It is also barebottomed.
The parameters I know because I test for them:
Temp: 80F
Conductivity: 53ms (electronic meter) (1.026 s.g.)
Ammonia and Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: <10
pH: 8.14 (electronic meter)
I use RODI water only. I also have no skimmer for this tank and do not plan on getting one unless everything dies and I can't keep anything alive in the tank.
I put a bunch of different species of mushrooms I bought at my LFS in the tank two days ago. Drip acclimated for 3-4 hours.
All but one of them are all shriveled up or closing up. They are also in the process of detaching from the rocks they came on.
They were not in very bright lights at the store. I put them on top of rocks near the very top of the tank because I only have that one flourescent bulb. Flow is very minimal and directed to the bottom of the tank. I did a 20% water change the day before I got the mushrooms.
What is wrong and how can I fix it?
Once things settle down and I figure this out, what other inverts/corals get I acquire that can utilize the conditions on my tank: low light/low flow/high nutrient (e.g. no skimmer) conditions?
