Well I spent an afternoon changing the overflow in my large tank to a herbie overflow. My tank is a 4 foot 120 gallon with dual overflows. 1 in drain bulkheads and 3/4 in return bulkheads.
So I plugged the 3/4 in bulkhead on one side and made the 1 in bulkhead on that side my return. Then on the other overflow I made the 3/4 a full siphon and the 1 in the back up.
So here is my major issue which I never ran into before
I now know that my protein skimmer is LOUD!!!! The overflow noise used to drown it out. Now my skimmer is the loudest thing in the room!!! Lol. Guess it's time for a skimmer upgrade 
A siphon overflow is the best thing I've ever done to my tank. If you are considering it make time for an afternoon of plumbing and just do it. You will be very happy that you did
